The underlying pathways are grouped into more specific Level 2 mechanism categories, while the Level 1 role provides the broader context. A compound may be mapped to one role, several roles, or none in a particular area.

Human evidence comes from studies involving people and has the greatest direct clinical relevance, although study quality and outcomes can still vary. Animal evidence can help establish biological plausibility but does not prove the same effect will occur in humans. In vitro evidence comes from laboratory cell models and shows what may happen under controlled conditions, often at concentrations that may not be achievable through normal oral use.
